CBX3 is a chromobox homolog protein that interacts with H3 tails which are methylated at Lys-9 sites. This protein is also recruited to sites of UV-induced- or double strand break-DNA damages. It modulates cotranscriptional RNA processing.

CBX3 also can bind lamin B receptor, an integral membrane protein found in the inner nuclear membrane.
